In a heartwarming display of community spirit and dedication to a noble cause, Sideline Cancer recently celebrated the 2nd Annual Girls Flag Football Tournament at Hollidaysburg High School. Last year’s inaugural event was a roaring success, raising an impressive $1,200 for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness and Advocacy. Undeterred by challenges, this year’s tournament proved to be another triumph, generating $1,000 in support of the same crucial cause.

Seven teams, each comprised of 10 spirited girls and guided by two football player coaches, took to the field, showcasing their athleticism, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer. Throughout the day, the air was filled with laughter, cheers, and a sense of camaraderie as players and spectators alike joined forces to make a difference.

In a riveting final match, Coach Tewell and Kensinger’s Team, led by the talented Hannah Dipangrazio, a Sideline Cancer AAU Player, emerged victorious, claiming the championship and the coveted I Can Cup. The resilience and determination displayed by these young athletes mirrored the strength and courage needed to overcome the challenges faced by cancer patients every day.

Adding an extra layer of excitement to the Turkey Bowl, a special MVP award was presented to Lexi Peacock from Team Orange. Her outstanding performance on the field captured the hearts of fans, who voted for her via Instagram. The Turkey Bowl’s official trophy stood proudly as a symbol of the event’s growing significance and the community’s commitment to making a positive impact in the fight against cancer.

As the Sideline Cancer Turkey Bowl becomes a cherished tradition in Hollidaysburg, it not only brings joy and entertainment but also serves as a powerful vehicle for raising funds and awareness. The enthusiasm and support displayed by the participants and the community underline the potential for grassroots initiatives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. With each touchdown and every dollar raised, Sideline Cancer and its supporters continue to prove that when a community comes together, incredible things happen.
