Bigger Than Golf: Celebrating the 15th Annual Sideline Cancer Golf Tournament
15th Annual Sideline Cancer Golf Tournament
There are days that remind us what a community can accomplish when people come together with a shared purpose. The 15th Annual Sideline Cancer Golf Tournament at Scotch Valley Country Club was one of those unforgettable days.
What began fifteen years ago as a golf tournament has grown into something much greater. It has become a celebration of hope, courage, friendship, generosity, and the incredible impact that happens when people choose to stand beside families facing cancer.
The Morning Before the First Tee
Long before golfers arrived, volunteers were already hard at work preparing the course for another memorable year. Sponsor banners were displayed, tee signs placed throughout the course, golfer gift bags assembled, and every detail carefully prepared to welcome participants.
The day reflected something Sideline Cancer has always believed:
“Where wisdom meets energy and mountains move.”
A special thank you goes to Emma, Sophie, Jack, Anson, and the many volunteers whose hard work behind the scenes made the tournament possible before the first golf cart even left the clubhouse.
Throughout the course, tee signs recognized businesses, organizations, families, and individuals who continue to believe in the mission of Sideline Cancer. Among the very first signs golfers encountered was a touching tribute honoring the memory of longtime Scotch Valley Country Club Manager Barb Cottrill—a beautiful reminder that those we love continue to inspire us.
More Than a Tournament
While golfers competed throughout the beautiful course at Scotch Valley Country Club, everyone understood that this event has always been about much more than golf.
Proceeds from the annual tournament help support the operational costs of the Sideline Cancer Patient Assistance Program while continuing the organization’s pancreatic cancer awareness efforts.
Since launching the Patient Assistance Program in 2021, Sideline Cancer has partnered with schools and communities throughout Blair County and Central Pennsylvania. Together, these partnerships have helped provide more than $300,000 in assistance to 100 cancer patients, ensuring that 100% of every donation goes directly to individuals and families facing the financial hardships of a cancer diagnosis.
The tournament represents another opportunity for the community to continue that incredible mission.
Courage Took Center Stage
One of the most meaningful moments of the day came from three remarkable individuals whose stories touched every golfer, volunteer, and sponsor in attendance.
Patient Assistance recipient Christa Stolz, recipient Isaac Tryninewski, and Spencer Davis, representing The Spencer Davis Foundation, each shared something far more valuable than words—they shared hope.
Each has faced unimaginable challenges, yet each continues to inspire others through courage, resilience, and an unwavering belief that difficult circumstances do not define who we become.
Their message reminded everyone that courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to move forward despite it.
Their stories perfectly embodied the Sideline Cancer spirit:
#ICAN
Believe Always.
It was a powerful reminder that sometimes the greatest victories happen far away from the scoreboard.
A Community That Gives
One of the defining characteristics of the Sideline Cancer Golf Tournament is the overwhelming generosity of the community.
Businesses, foundations, families, and organizations stepped forward once again as Gold, Silver, and Bronze Sponsors, making this event possible.
From sponsor banners lining the course to tee signs at every hole, their support was visible everywhere participants looked.
The Spencer Davis Foundation joined this year’s tournament as a Bronze Sponsor while also partnering with Sideline Cancer’s 2026-2027 school merchandise campaign, helping expand awareness for both CPR/AED education and pancreatic cancer awareness throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Courtesy Motors provided tournament golf towels, while Stuckey Subaru once again sponsored the exciting Hole-in-One contest with the opportunity to win a brand-new 2026 Subaru Impreza. Although no one claimed the prize this year, the tradition continues after fifteen consecutive years of generous support.
Participants also enjoyed an incredible collection of food, refreshments, raffle prizes, and contests made possible through the generosity of community partners including the Lena & Bruno DeGol Foundation, Scotch Valley Country Club, Sheetz, Blair Candy, Parlor Doughnuts, Sam’s Club, Lena’s Café, the Smithe Family, and many additional prize donors.
Every donation—large or small—helped create an unforgettable experience while supporting families affected by cancer.

It Takes an Army of Volunteers
When the final putt dropped and golfers headed home, the work wasn’t finished.
Volunteers once again came together to remove tee signs, collect tournament materials, and carefully pack everything away for another successful year.
Isaac Tryninewski joined John Clay and his sons Jack, Anson, and Max to help clean up the course, demonstrating once again that the Sideline Cancer family doesn’t simply show up—they stay until the work is done.
The organization is also incredibly grateful to every volunteer who generously donated their time throughout the tournament. Whether registering golfers, preparing gift bags, organizing contests, serving food, setting up sponsor displays, or helping behind the scenes, each volunteer played an important role in making the day possible.
As Helen Keller once said,
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
That quote perfectly captured the spirit of this year’s tournament.
Believe Always
The 15th Annual Sideline Cancer Golf Tournament wasn’t simply about golf.
It was about community.
It was about families.
It was about honoring loved ones.
It was about celebrating survivors.
It was about supporting patients.
It was about volunteers giving their time, sponsors giving their resources, and golfers giving their hearts.
Most of all, it was another reminder that when people come together with compassion and purpose, extraordinary things happen.
From every volunteer, sponsor, donor, golfer, patient recipient, and supporter—thank you for making this year’s tournament one to remember.
Together, we continue to raise awareness, provide hope, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of families facing cancer.
We Believe Always.
Together We Can Sideline Cancer.
