Sideline Cancer Softball Embodies The Believe Always Spirit: Honoring Dakota Dixon

Two years ago, Ali Stinson approached Sideline Cancer with a vision: to create a softball program that played for something “Bigger Than Sports,” much like the Sideline Cancer basketball program. Fast-forward to today, and her vision has not only been realized but has flourished, with the Sideline Cancer Softball program growing tenfold and competing at an elite level. Beyond the wins, however, the program has stayed true to its mission: embodying all things “Bigger Than Sports.”

This past Memorial Day weekend, the Sideline Cancer Softball teams participated in the PA Impulse Fast-Pitch Memorial Day Classic in Shippensburg, PA. While the 14U team brought home the championship trophy, the weekend was about much more than the scoreboards. The softballers played with purpose, dedicating their tournament to honoring the life and legacy of Dakota Dixon.

Dakota Dixon was a brave soul who fought childhood cancer from 2016 to 2024. His journey was one of resilience and determination, inspiring countless individuals along the way. This weekend, the Sideline Cancer Softball teams paused to reflect on his story, taking to heart his reminder that “Every day on the field is a blessing, win, lose, or draw. We will not be judged by our actions on the field, but by the lives we touch off of it.”

Through their commitment to this mission, the Sideline Cancer Softball program exemplifies the “Believe Always” spirit. The players not only compete with passion but also strive to make a difference in the lives of others, continuing the legacy of Dakota Dixon and all those who have battled cancer. Their dedication reminds us all that true success lies in the impact we have on others.
