In a heartwarming effort to make a significant impact on the lives of those battling cancer, Sideline Cancer is gearing up for its inaugural Sideline Cancer Game at Williamsburg High School on January 24th. The event aims to rally support for Lacie Merrits, a brave soul facing the challenges of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
Taking their mission to the airwaves, Sideline Cancer Executive Director, Jordan Griffith, accompanied by three dedicated AAU Players—Leeanna Royer, Ayla Hileman of Williamsburg, and Elayna Thomas of S. Huntingdon—graced the set of WTAJ’s Perry Wellington Show. This heartening appearance unfolded as part of the “Pay it Forward” segment, highlighting the organization’s commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of cancer patients.
Securing the valuable airtime on the Perry Wellington Show was made possible by the generous gesture of Pat Cassidy, who played a pivotal role in bringing Sideline Cancer to Bellwood during his last year coaching basketball at the school. The collaboration between the AAU players and the executive director showcased not only their passion for the cause but also their dedication to creating a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
During the televised segment, all three girls, along with Jordan Griffith, radiated enthusiasm and positivity, effectively promoting the upcoming game. Their infectious “I Can Attitude & Believe Always Spirit” resonated with the audience, underscoring the collective effort required to make a lasting change in the world. The television appearance not only raised awareness for the event but also inspired viewers to join in the mission to support cancer patients like Lacie Merrits.
As a further show of solidarity, Sideline Cancer Merchandise is set to hit the shelves on January 3rd, coinciding with the students’ return to school. With $5 from every item sold earmarked for Lacie’s support, the community is encouraged to not only attend the game but also to contribute to this noble cause through the purchase of Sideline Cancer merchandise. In this collective effort, Sideline Cancer is not only fostering a sense of community but also empowering individuals to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
