As of March 1st, Penn State University Park will be getting a little more purple (and hopefully this crew of people will get even bigger)!
Sideline Cancer is an organization that spreads awareness for Pancreatic Cancer and raises funds for research through a variety of events. It started with a group of high schoolers at Hollidaysburg High School and the Griffith Family Foundation, and now has spread to another major university! Sideline Cancer is now an OFFICIAL Penn State club.
Sierra Cobler, who organized this effort to get Sideline Cancer established on Penn State, has been working as an intern for Sideline Cancer for 4 years. Watching all this unfold has been incredible. We can’t wait to see where Sideline Cancer goes from here!
Dr. James Adair (click here to learn more about his work), PSU Scientist and Cancer Researcher, is our PSU ICAN Sideline Pancreatic Cancer Club Advisor. We reached out to Dr.Adair via email in October 2017 and he immediately responded back and met with our Sideline Cancer Interns and Cathy to form a PSU Club and establish our Student Led 4th PSU/Altoona I Can Sideline Pancreatic Cancer Symposium.
So already many wheels and various parts to support this chapter at Penn State are already in motion. Jack Andraka, one of our Sideline Cancer Ambassadors, will be attending our fourth PSU/Altoona “I Can Sideline Pancreatic Cancer” Symposium on Friday, April 5th, 2019.
Jack Andraka and his mentor Dr. Anirban Maitra have encouraged students like our Sideline Cancer Interns to reach out to be catalysts of charge for Pancreatic Cancer!
